What is metabolic syndrome?

This is a cluster of a few medical conditions:

Central obesity ie. increased visceral fat (we can can get some idea of this from waist circumferences)

High blood pressure

High blood sugar

High Triglycerides (a type of fat in your blood)

Low HDL (high density lipoprotein – a type of protein that carries cholesterol in the blood)

Metabolic syndrome is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, stroke and Type 2 Diabetes.

Insulin resistance is closely related to this this syndrome.
